[World Stroke Day] Race against time to save lives

October 29, 2022 is the 17th “World Stroke Day”. This year’s theme is “Recognize Stroke Symptoms and Take Precious Time”, and the slogan is “Race against time to save lives”.

Stroke (commonly known as “stroke”) is an acute cerebrovascular disease that often occurs in autumn and winter. It is mainly divided into cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction, and cerebral infarction accounts for about 70%. It has the characteristics of high morbidity, high disability rate, high mortality rate and high recurrence rate, which can lead to disability, paralysis and even death, bringing a heavy burden to countless families. If everyone can find the symptoms and seek medical attention immediately, and send the patient to the nearest hospital within the golden time window (ie, 4.5 hours after the onset of the disease) for treatment such as thrombolysis or thrombectomy, most patients can immediately improve their symptoms.

Even if the onset exceeds the prime time, seek medical attention as soon as possible. The sooner the treatment is performed, the more brain cells can be saved, and the better the treatment and recovery effect will be.

In order to teach everyone to recognize stroke symptoms as soon as possible, the Chinese Stroke Association released the “BE FAST formula”:

B (Balance) refers to balance, loss of balance or coordination, sudden difficulty in walking;

E (Eyes) refers to the eyes, sudden changes in vision, difficulty seeing;

F (Face) refers to the face, the face is asymmetrical, and the corners of the mouth are skewed;

A (Arms) refers to the arm, a sudden feeling of weakness or numbness in the arm, usually on one side of the body;

S (Speech) refers to language, speaking vaguely and unable to understand other people’s language;

T (Time) refers to the time. If the above symptoms occur, call 120 immediately.
