What is HIV?

What is HIV?

AIDS (AIDS) is a very harmful infectious disease caused by HIV infection.

HIV is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system. It takes the most important CD4 T lymphocytes in the human immune system as the main attack target, destroys the cells in large quantities, and makes the human body lose its immune function.

Therefore, the human body is susceptible to various diseases, and malignant tumors can occur, with a high mortality rate. The average incubation period of HIV in the human body is 8 to 9 years. During the incubation period of HIV, one can live and work for many years without any symptoms.

What are the routes of transmission of AIDS?

Route of Transmission?

How AIDS is spread:

01

Sexual transmission : Unprotected sexual intercourse (vaginal or anal) or oral sex with an infected person.

02

Blood Transmission : Transfusion of infected blood. Combine contaminated needles, syringes, or other sharps.

03

Mother-to-child transmission : Transmission between mother and her infant during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding.

What are the clinical manifestations of AIDS?

Clinical Manifestation

HIV-infected persons will develop into AIDS patients after a latent period of several years, even as long as 10 years or longer, and multiple infections will appear due to the extreme decline of the body’s resistance.

Such as herpes zoster, oral fungal infection, tuberculosis, enteritis, pneumonia, encephalitis caused by special pathogenic microorganisms, severe infections caused by Candida, Pneumocystis and other pathogens, etc., malignant tumors often occur in the later stage, and long-term consumption occurs, to systemic failure and death.

01

General symptoms : persistent fever, weakness, night sweats, persistent generalized lymphadenopathy. In particular, the swelling of the cervical nodes is more obvious. Lymph nodes are more than 1 cm in diameter, firm in texture, movable, and painless. The weight loss can reach more than 10% within 3 months, and can be reduced by up to 40%. The patient’s weight loss is particularly obvious.

02

Respiratory symptoms : long-term cough, chest pain, dyspnea, bloody sputum in severe cases.

03

Gastrointestinal symptoms : loss of appetite, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and blood in the stool in severe cases. Medications commonly used to treat digestive tract infections are not effective for this type of diarrhea.

04

Neurological symptoms :

Dizziness, headache, unresponsiveness, mental retardation, psychosis, convulsions, hemiplegia, dementia, etc.

05

Skin and mucous membrane damage : herpes simplex, herpes zoster, oral and pharyngeal mucosal inflammation and ulceration.

06

Tumor : A variety of malignant tumors can appear, and Kaposi’s sarcoma located on the body surface can be seen with red or purple macules, papules, and infiltrating masses.

about HIV testing

AIDS Testing

If you suspect that you have AIDS, you can go to a medical and health institution qualified for AIDS testing to obtain testing services. HIV testing starts with a preliminary antibody screening test. If the preliminary screening test result is “positive”, further re-examination and confirmatory testing must be done to confirm whether you are infected with AIDS.

Where to check:

The voluntary consultation and testing room of the local CDC can provide free testing;

Local public hospitals, maternal and child health care centers, etc. can provide fee-based testing;

Self-test reagents can be purchased through the Internet, self-service vending machines, etc.;

If the self-examination reagent shows HIV positive, it is necessary to go to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of a medical institution for a diagnosis in time.

about AIDS treatment

AIDS Therapy

Once infected with HIV, the virus replication in the body has already begun, which will gradually damage multiple organs in the body. Early detection and early treatment can inhibit virus replication and reduce the chance of body damage. There is currently no cure for AIDS. But early detection and early treatment , taking medicine according to the doctor’s orders during the treatment can restore the immune function and maintain a normal level , the life expectancy can be almost the same as that of normal people, and work and study can also be carried out normally.

About AIDS Prevention

AIDS Preventive Methods

There is currently no effective vaccine against AIDS, so it is most important to take preventive measures. The method is:
