Professor Mingying Gai and Advanced Obstetrics Life Support Course

At 10:00 this morning, it will be the time for the farewell ceremony of Professor Gai Mingying’s body. In other places, Beijing Healthbao Pop-up 3 also prevents me from going back to Beijing to attend her farewell ceremony.

Professor Gai Mingying is a well-known obstetrics expert in China and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Peking Union Medical College Hospital . She has been a doctor for more than 60 years, and her children should be tens of thousands . She is a kind grandma in the eyes of many parents. There was relief and reassurance in those words.

The first time I knew Professor Mingying Gai was when I was a resident physician in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital. From 1998 to 2003, my resident physician rotated, and I always spent about 3 months in the obstetrics department every year. , as a modern obstetrics department in China handed down by Dr. Lin Qiaozhi, she was one of several professors in charge of the ward at that time and often worked under her guidance. She can be said to be Lin Qiaozhi’s student, so I belong to her student .

When she was in charge of the maternity ward, the atmosphere in the ward was always lively, and she liked to play with our young people. Around 2000, she was already a 60-year-old professor, but her mentality was always young. She said that she was a typical example of living until old age. Many people are already struggling to learn computers at this age. She has to learn by herself, and her progress is very fast. Soon, she will be able to use the computer to write articles and make PPTs proficiently. Whenever she has free time, she likes to give lectures to our young doctors. She herself likes to accept new ideas. Under her leadership, the obstetrics department has carried out new work such as high-dose oxytocin induction, slow-release PG induction, and IUGR intrauterine treatment. use.

She is very good in English, so she had some exchanges with foreign countries very early. It is precisely because of her recommendation that the Ministry of Health introduced a training program for neonatal resuscitation (NRP), which has now become an essential skill for midwives and neonatologists. Later, at the recommendation of her friend Rob Clark, she and Professor Huang Xinghua from Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital first participated in the Advanced Obstetrics Life Support Course (ALSO) project in Hong Kong in 1999. As a senior obstetrics expert, she felt that this was a A very good training program for midwives, so she strongly advocated the introduction of this training program.

It is not easy to do a training program. The foreign authorized party is the American Association of Family Physicians (AAFP). The other party is willing to give this training program to Chinese doctors for free, but it needs the association to connect. With her efforts, China Preventive Medicine The Women’s Health Branch of the Women’s Health Association signed a partnership with AAFP, and after 2000 began to promote the program in the country.

As a young doctor, in 2000, Professor Gai Mingying asked us to participate in the translation of ALSO training materials. Perhaps because of my hard work, she was recognized by her. She translated most of the translation of the whole book into proofreading The team work was handed over to me.

2002 was the first time when AAFP sent foreign experts to teach in China. Professor Gai led the first ALSO training in Peking Union Medical College Hospital, and I participated in the translation and foreign guests throughout the process.

In the following 10 years, Professors Gai Mingying and Huang Xinghua led me to carry out ALSO training work in many places across the country. Because the ALSO project is different from other obstetrics and gynecology academic conferences, during the 2-day training time , 1/3 of the lectures are taught, and about 1/2 are designed for the characteristics of adult learning. Hand-to-hand operation, case discussion, and simulation exercises are all training for critical and critical illnesses that are more common in obstetric clinics. The courses include For example, vaginal midwifery, shoulder dystocia, 4th degree perineal laceration, intrapartum fetal monitoring, postpartum hemorrhage, maternal resuscitation and other very practical information for midwives, using formula-based memory methods, small class teaching mode, teacher-student ratio No more than 1:6, such a novel production technology training model has been warmly welcomed by doctors all over the country.

With the efforts of Professor Gai Mingying, the ALSO project in 2008 was supported by the Department of Women and Children of the National Health and Family Planning Commission . The Women’s Health Care Association launched 4 provincial training courses for teachers across the country. Unfortunately, we hope to become a midwife nationwide in the future. The idea of a necessary training program for personnel has not been implemented due to issues such as funding.

In more than 10 years, more than 1,000 students have been trained by Professor Mingying Gai . Many colleagues have felt the demeanor of everyone in Xiehe Obstetrics and Gynecology. Because of the introduction of Professor Mingying Gai, the ALSO project has become popular among doctors across the country. great popularity.

After 2012, Professor Gai Mingying gradually withdrew from the training program. I continued to take over the training for a few years. During this period, we updated the 4th edition of the textbook and continued to implement a standardized teaching model . After 2018, I considered my In the future, he will no longer do obstetrics work, and will also hand over the training to Professor Gao Jinsong of the Obstetrics Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital.

Following Professor Gai Mingying’s work for more than ten years, I have benefited a lot. Professor Lang Jinghe always said at Dr. Lin Qiaozhi’s annual report on young doctors that if you want to find his monument, please look around you. I have not personally experienced the era of Dr. Lin Qiaozhi of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Xiehe, but I have experienced the obstetrics and gynecology passed down by the disciples of Dr. Lin Qiaozhi, such as Professor Lang Jinghe, Professor Bian Xuming, and Professor Gai Mingying . Learned the harmonious spirit of rigor, refinement, diligence and dedication.

Professor Gai Mingying always told us to work hard. She said that she suffered a lot when she was young, so it is not difficult to do anything when she is old. Even in the first half of this year, she was still working at full capacity, with basically only half a day of rest a week, and she didn’t get enough time for several gatherings with her.

She said that she was in good health, lived a regular life every day, insisted on walking 10,000 steps every day, and usually only had high blood pressure, and she was in good health. The disease came back so quickly. Two months ago, I heard that I was still seeing patients in the outpatient clinic, but I didn’t expect to leave in just two months.

When I brought my daughter to see her in 2018, her daughter was only two years old. Teacher Gai said she was very cute. She hoped her daughter could remember this kind grandma in the future.

The inheritance of the spirit of harmony in our generation is just like what Teacher Gai taught us: we need to work hard, treat patients kindly, and keep moving forward.

As Professor Lang Jinghe said: If you want to find his monument, please look around you.
