From Haruki Murakami to Da Pujie, talk about the perceptual cognition of running

I ran more seriously for two years, and I always wanted to write my thoughts during this period, but I always felt that it was almost something. As a result, the Achilles tendon was “cooperating” with some problems, so that he seriously stopped running for more than 5 months to recuperate. This is finally complete, and I can write – as an amateur runner.

The beginning of everything is difficult. First of all, let’s talk about the process of getting started and what I know about “running”.

Looking back, I have traveled a lot. Needless to say, when I was in school, I ran in the fields of Sweden, the seaside in Norway, the street gardens in France, the hutongs and roads in Beijing, and the Century Park in Shanghai. Walking over… Of course, I have the impression that I ran a few steps at the base camp of Mount Everest in Tibet, and then stopped.

It seems that the resume is luxurious, but it is actually a runaway.

Until one day, a friend gave me a book – “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running” by Haruki Murakami . If there is a watershed moment, perhaps this event will fill the role. Or when I finally unpacked the book, which had been sitting on the shelf for a while.

In fact, I knew that Haruki Murakami had the habit of long-distance running, but what happened between the two is impossible to know without reading this book. This essay is very similar to an autobiography. On the one hand, I can understand him personally, and on the other hand, I can feel some feelings about running.

It turns out that writing and running can be harmoniously blended. It may not be accurate to say that, it should be said that it is running that maintains the balance of Haruki Murakami’s life. This topic is not discussed here. In short, his example or role model, let me have a longing for the coexistence of writing and long-distance running. This is quite different from the usual image of the pot-bellied, puffing writer.

Let me give an example to illustrate the importance of its influence on me: when I traveled to Japan a few years ago, I took a special walk around the ring road outside the Meiji Jingu baseball stadium in Tokyo. This is where Murakami often went when he lived in Tokyo. Runway, I went to step on the road he ran.

There has always been a feeling that long-distance running, or marathon, has become more and more popular among domestic white-collar workers/elite groups. And these people are often not very young, there are many people in their thirties and forties. That’s true, but it gave me a not-so-good impression – maybe it’s getting older and starting to pay attention to long-distance running? Murakami are all grandfathers!

Fortunately, this curse-like idea was broken by myself. It wasn’t Haruki Murakami that drove my craze for running, but two other things.

The first is to appreciate the work “The Strong Wind Blows” , both watching the animation and reading the novel. The result is that youth and blood seem to be on fire again within the body. When I traveled to Japan, I passed by Hakone, but unfortunately I didn’t know anything about Hakone’s position in the running circle. Thanks to my college classmates, I only have the infrequent word “Hakone’s Cowherd” hovering in my mind, but I don’t know the famous Hakone Ekiden.

The second is to know Da Pujie, a long-distance runner. His unique experience and super handsome looks (and running style) quickly made him my idol. That’s right, I’m in my thirties. If you ask me if I have an idol now, and who the idol is, the answer is Da Zongjie.

Maybe someone found out that all of the above are Japanese. Objectively speaking, Japan is the most advanced and popular country in the world’s long-distance running culture, and there is no need to refute it.

So close to the subject, what exactly is running?

Running is a boring sport. Anyone who has gone to school in China has probably experienced long-distance running in physical education class. It was a really boring and painful project. After measuring 1000 meters, the feeling of blood in the throat is unforgettable. And I was a member of the track and field team when I was in elementary school. One of the training items was to run in circles between Xisi Bei Santiao Hutong and Sitiao to Bajiao. A PE teacher might say “three or four” or “three or six” runs today. Although the so-called three or six are not much more than three or four in distance, the psychological pressure caused by the higher number is great.

Running is a painful exercise. Foaming at the mouth and panting like a dog, isn’t that painful? One of the reasons why I can run is that I hoped to have a painful thing to balance my life (unlike Murakami’s kind). As far as running is concerned, it is a physical exercise and a willpower challenge. Of course, the feeling depends on your speed, and easy running is not painful.

Running is a lonely thing. In fact, many people will run together, and even have a running group. But more people are probably running alone. This may be about character, or it may be about convenience and training effects, not discussed. Being able to enjoy solitude is a good thing after all.

Running is a joyful sport. There is undoubtedly pain and happiness during the run, and a refreshing feeling after the run. After working at a desk for too long, back pain and neck pain are inevitable. Go for a run, and the uncomfortable feeling will be swept away. In addition, the legendary “runner’s climax” is true, but this is not the point.

Running is a very friendly exercise for fat loss and weight loss. The principle is that in the case of relatively jogging, the body’s fat burning efficiency is higher. When you run at a faster speed, the energy supply ratio of fat will be greatly reduced, and the energy supply ratio of glycogen will increase, making up for the energy needed by the body. In layman’s terms, it means running and panting, which is not only very painful and easy to get injured, but also the effect of losing weight is not ideal. On the contrary, jogging has a better fat loss effect and is more pleasant. I figured this out after running for a while.

Therefore, for people who have no effect on losing weight by running, there are several reasons: the first is that they ate too much even though they ran, the second is that the running time is too short and/or the speed is too fast, and the third is that they are in a hurry No longer insist on seeking success.

Generally speaking, keeping a single jog for more than 30 minutes will have an effect over time. Of course, running also carries some risks for those who lose weight. The risk is that this group is often neither specialized nor overweight. Heavier weight is one of the important factors of injury, and we will talk about it next time.

The above are some partial perceptual cognitions of running. The next article will give some more scientific explanations from the aspects of pace, running volume, heart rate, etc.
