Dishonored is a first-person stealth and action-adventure game developed by Arkane and published by Bethesda. It was released on October 9, 2012 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms. PS4 and Xbox One versions were launched in 2015. The sequel Dishonored 2 and the indie game Dishonored: Death of the Outsider were released in November 2016 and September 2017, respectively.
The story of the game is set in the fictional industrial city of “Dunwall City”. The protagonist, Korver Attano, who is the Queen’s bodyguard, is slandered as the murderer of the Queen. After escaping from imprisonment, he turns into an assassin and tells the crowd. Those involved take revenge. On the way, Korver is assisted by the Loyalists and the Outsiders, the former being a group of people aiming to retake Dunwall, while the latter is a powerful being who endows Korver with superpowers. The game’s various characters are voiced by a number of famous actors, including Susan Sarandon, Brad Dourif, Carrie Fisher, Michael Madsen, John Slattery, Lena Headey, and Chloe Moretz.
During the three-year early production period, the game developers developed several versions. When creating Dunwall, the gamers were modeled after medieval Japan and 17th-century London. During development, testers discovered that they could use existing capabilities and techniques to achieve unexpected results, so they tried to redesign levels to accommodate them, rather than limit them. Additionally, the game’s musical score was written by composer Daniel Richter to recreate 19th-century London.
